Your food hygiene training certificate, from your phone or computer
For food handlers working in Spain: a short hygiene course for the kitchen, the bar or the shop, and a simple exam. At your own pace and with no sign-up.
- Take the course. About 25 minutes of reading, whenever you can.
- Take the exam. 20 questions; you pass with 75%. If you fail, you can take it again for free.
- Download your PDF. It has a QR code so your employer can check it.
Private document certifying the training received in food hygiene, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 and Spanish Royal Decree 109/2010. It is not an official qualification: training food handlers is the responsibility of the food business.
Who it is for
For anyone who works, or is going to work, with food: waiters, cooks, kitchen assistants, food shop assistants, butchers, bakers, school canteen supervisors, delivery drivers and warehouse staff.
What you learn
- Food hazards and foodborne illnesses.
- Personal hygiene and good practice.
- Cleaning, disinfection and pest control.
- Storage, temperatures and cross-contamination.
- Allergens and intolerances.
- The business's obligations and own-checks (HACCP).
Topic 5 covers allergens. It is entirely about them: the 14 allergens that must be declared, how to inform customers and how to avoid cross-contact. The exam also has questions on that topic.
Each topic cites its sources: Regulation (EC) 852/2004, Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, Spanish Royal Decree 126/2015, Spanish Royal Decree 109/2010, documents from the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition and guidance from the World Health Organization. See all the sources (in Spanish).
What this certificate is and what it is not
- It is a private document from Nuvola Studio SL showing that you have received food hygiene training and passed the exam.
- It is not issued or backed by any public authority. Since 2010, Spanish law has not required a public document to work with food (Royal Decree 109/2010): training food handlers is the duty of the food business (Regulation (EC) 852/2004, Annex II, Chapter XII).
- Your employer decides whether this training is enough for your job and includes it in its training plan.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in my country?
No. Only in Spain. This course and certificate are only for working in Spain. They are not valid in other countries.
How much does it cost?
The course and the exam are free. The PDF certificate costs €12 (VAT included), and only if you pass and decide to download it. You can pay by card, Google Pay or Apple Pay.
Does it include allergen training?
Yes: topic 5 covers allergens. The specific allergen course, with its own certificate, is only available in Spanish.
How long does it take?
About an hour: around 25 minutes to read the course and 15-20 minutes for the exam.
How many times can I take the exam?
As many as you like. Each time you get 20 different questions, chosen at random from a larger bank.
What personal details do you ask for?
Only for the certificate: your full name, the type and number of your ID document (DNI, the Spanish identity card; NIE, the foreigner identity number; or passport) and, if you wish, your employer. We do not keep your full document number: only the part shown on the verification page. More details in the privacy policy.
How does my employer check the certificate?
By scanning the QR code on the PDF or typing its code on the verification page (in Spanish). They will see your name, your partly hidden document number, the course and the date.
Is it accepted in Galicia, Navarra, Extremadura or Ceuta?
It depends. Throughout Spain, training food handlers is the responsibility of the business, and under the criteria agreed by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition with the autonomous communities, the training does not have to be given by an authorised organisation. In Galicia (Decree 290/2003), Navarra (Regional Decree 108/2003), Extremadura (Decree 138/2002) and Ceuta (Regulation of 2003) an old rule that required training from authorised organisations is still published, and we have not found that it has been repealed. Before you buy, ask your employer whether they accept this certificate.
Does it expire?
It is usual to refresh it every 4 years; the law sets no deadline, it requires up-to-date training. Your employer may ask you to repeat the training whenever they think it is necessary, for example if your job changes.
